Food should be something you look forward to—not something you have to endure.
For many people with autism and other sensory differences, finding meals that are both nutritious and comfortable to eat can be a challenge. Texture, temperature, smell, appearance, seasoning, and even the way food is presented can make the difference between “That looks good!” and “No, thank you.”
At True North, we believe mealtimes should be enjoyable, individualized, and free from unnecessary battles.
True North Cooking grew from a very simple place: I love to cook, and I know how much food can matter to someone with sensory sensitivities. Andrea enjoys most of the meals I prepare, and over time I’ve learned that a successful meal isn’t about making someone eat what everyone else is eating. It’s about understanding what works for that person and finding ways to make healthy food approachable, familiar, and enjoyable.
Here you’ll find recipes and meal ideas that consider sensory needs while still focusing on good nutrition, variety, and real food. Some are family favorites. Some are simple adaptations of familiar dishes. Others are meals created specifically with texture, flavor, and predictability in mind.
And every Sunday, I’ll share a new recipe. Some will be quick and simple. Some will be comfort food. Some will be healthier twists on old favorites. All of them will come from the same philosophy: food can be nutritious and enjoyable.
There won’t be a one-size-fits-all menu here—because there isn’t a one-size-fits-all person.
Instead, True North Cooking is about finding foods that work for the individual, building confidence around mealtimes, and discovering that healthy food can actually be something you enjoy.
Because sometimes the road to better nutrition starts with something as simple as finding a meal that feels just right.
